The Costuming Track is excited to welcome Tandy Leather as the official sponsor of Costuming Track for the 2018 show.
Make sure that you take a moment to chat with the amazing people from Tandy and while you are at it thank them for their support. Their sponsorship helps us continue to improve the programming that we bring to you.
You can find Tandy representatives on some of our panels (Hilton 304) or outside of our Costuming Exhibit (Hilton 301) at the Tandy Leather Costume Repair Station. You heard me clearly, Tandy Leather is providing a Costume Repair Station to help with those unexpected wardrobe malfunctions during the show. While there is no cost for these repairs, a small donation towards this years charity drive supporting Literacy Action would always be appreciated.
If you make it over to the Vendor Hall make sure you stop by the Tandy booth and buy some of their wares. They will be located at America’s Mart on Floor 2 – Market Space 2329.
Don’t forget to show your support by visiting and liking Tandy’s Facebook page.
From all of the volunteers of Costuming Track; thank you Tandy Leather for your support.
Do you want take over the world? Do you take pleasure in regaling your master plan to your arch nemesis when they are trapped? Are you imposing enough that people cower when you enter a room?

- Regina (Once Upon a Time)
- Rumpelstiltskin (Once Upon a Time)

- Ra’s al Ghul
- The Joker
- Dr Octopus
- Dolores Umbrage
- Lucius Malfoy
- White Witch
- A Pac-Man Ghost
- Shao Khan
- The Monarch
We’ll see you in all your villainous glory at the runway.
Every year Dragon Con champions the cause of a designated charity. Organizations selected in the past have represented a wide range of community services, including support for families facing lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and heart disease, assistance for the homeless, and community food banks. This year, Literacy Action Inc. has been designated the official Dragon Con charity of 2018. Literacy Action’s mission is to “build better futures for undereducated adults by teaching literacy, life, and work skills that empower them to reach their highest potential.” For more information on Literacy Action visit literacyaction.org.
In support of the Literacy Action mission, Dragon Con is hosting a book drive and the Costuming Track is helping to collect new and gently-used books at all reading levels that can become a part of the Literacy Action library. If you’d like to help, please consider donating books to Literacy Action. We are especially looking forward to receiving books on all things costume and crafting related. From works of fiction like “The Tailor of Panama” to Jim Henson biographies, we will happily accept all crafting and costuming themed books! Books can be donated at the Costuming Track on the 3rd floor of the Atlanta Hilton during Dragon Con. Donations can also be made via mail until Monday, August 20th (email us for shipping instructions). For more ways to help, visit our 2018 charities page.
Thank you for your support!
This year, Dragon Con’s charity of choice is Literacy Action. We at Costuming Track are doing our part. -with a costuming twist, of course.
Pin Your Business Card
First, we are providing a pin board for our costuming related service providers to pin their business card (or flyer) and show their support! Pins for Charity will be located in our Exhibits (Hilton, 3rd floor, room 301) for all of the Dragon Con members to see when they visit the exhibit. Minimum donation amounts will be posted at the con for various print sizes.
Patterns are back!!
We are excited to once again offer this opportunity to add to your pattern collection while helping us raise funds for charity. The patterns will be sold in room 304 (Hilton, 3rd floor) whenever panels are in session. Come on by and pick up yours.
Want to donate patterns for the cause? We are accepting new, gently used, or original draft patterns of ANY type this year: fabric construction, leather crafting, chainmaille weaves, prop building, – even dog costumes, and so much more. All types of patterns are much appreciated. Please bring your pattern donations to Costuming Track either Thursday in room 302 from 4:00p-7:00p, or to rooms 306-307 Friday and Saturday from 2:30p-8:00p. If you prefer to mail them to us in advance, please email us at: email@example.com.
Books for Literacy
We are also collecting books to be repurposed. We are asking for new or gently used books, preferably those sharing the joy of costuming; but no great book will be turned away. Most of them will be donated directly to Literacy Action to help disadvantaged adults learn to read. They do have a cap on how many they can take, however, so any book that is left over will be sold for a minimum donation alongside the patterns.
To learn more about how Dragon Con is helping other nonprofit organizations continue to serve our community, visit their charities page here. You can also learn more about Literacy Action by visiting their website.
We are pleased to announce that we have some exciting new costuming workshops joining the schedule for Dragon Con 2018.
Have you ever wanted to add electronics to your costumes but didn’t know how? Well, we have a wonderful opportunity for you! In Light Up Cat Ears: Concepts in Costuming Electronics workshop your instructors will take you through the process of construction lighted, color cycling cat ears.
Registration for this class is limited to 10 people with a materials reimbursement cost of $25.
This unique class allows you to make simple or complex electrical circuits on a flat piece of paper!
Using copper tape and surface-mount LEDs you’ll be able to make a fully functional circuit on a flat surface, like a piece of paper.
So, you may ask, what is a paper circuit? A paper circuit is a functioning electronic circuit built on a paper surface instead of a printed circuit board (PCB). Projects can range from greeting cards, to origami, to traditional art such as paintings or drawings. What makes them unique is the use of traditional fine art techniques to create a circuit that is combines aesthetics and functionality.
This class is being offered FREE of Charge; however, our guests are presenting this workshop only once and seating is limited to 20 people.
These classes are sure to fill up fast. Don’t delay! Visit our workshops page for all the details and to register now.
With such an amazing response from our fans these workshops are completely already full:
- Pattern Drafting for Beginners
- Synthetic Wig Styling
We still have several magnificent Workshops just waiting for your registrations. Many of these workshops already have limited availability so don’t wait until the last minute.
What’s still available?
Storm the Castle in Your Own Armor
Have fun storming the Castle!

Dragon Con’s 2017 official charity is the Special Olympics Georgia. All funds raised for this charity during this year’s convention will be matched by Dragon Con dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.
The Costuming Track is providing you with a number of ways that you can help support the cause.
The Costuming Track is providing a Pin Board for our costuming related service providers to show their support for this years charity drive for the Georgia Special Olympics (www.specialolympicsga.org/). This will be located within our Exhibit space for all of the Dragon Con members to see when they visit the exhibit. Learn more here.
The Costuming Track is accepting donations of old patterns of all kinds to be given a new home with fellow costumers and cosplayers for a small monetary donation to the charity drive. Donated patterns will be available (1 for $5 or 3 for $10) at the front of our track room (Hilton, 3rd floor, room 303) throughout the con weekend. Learn more here.
Selfie in The IronFoam Throne of Westeros
Come and see The IronFoam Throne of Westeros at the Costuming Exhibit (Hilton room 301, Friday – Sunday, 11:30a to 8:00p). This is a Look-AND-Touch piece. Take a selfie sitting in the Throne for a small donation to this years charity drive.
For those of you who would like to show your support and make a donation, the Costuming Track will have Charity Drive Donation Boxes in our Main Track Room, all 3 of our Workshop/Small Group Classrooms, and at the volunteer table in the Costuming Exhibit.
